the moon has gone silent

ice storm cardinal

steam rises from
swirls

sleepless trees –
ice ruminating

architectures
of violets – in dreams

The Cat Poem

cat by rainy window

Gather yourself
into bowls like the cat,
call the day a beauty
because

and because it’s raining,
hand press the wrinkles
until your shirt simply
ripples, give the cat a name

before she runs away
to someone else,
though this will break you,
you will still have

your bowls for another
bedraggled cat to come in
from the season in which
it has chosen you

over all others.

Spring Memories

Cherry-blossoms-Vancouver

I could tell you
of my love of
each spring –

The cherry
blossoms
speaking up.

The moon’s
first swim in
the pond out
back.

Blueberries
pausing for
muffins and
blintzes.

Finding
a stray dog to
introduce to the
summer rental.

And the bird
with one note –
bless it.

How do we
bear summer
when spring
is so rich with
the good and
the good?
